I feel that the name Espresso needs some explanation, so here goes. When I decided I was going to buy an STI, I really had no idea about the differences between the model years. I did know that the 2004 and 2005 body styles were the same compared to the 2006 and 2007 STIs. Oh but I was wrong even with that simple thought. It turns out that 2004 was the first year the STI was introduced to North America, it is also the only year that my car came with the paint color, Java Black Pearl, among a few small differences compared to the 2005 model (no rear fender lip, different steering wheel, different center consle, etc.)
So I figured this unique car (of course that is subjective) should have a name. I thought about the stereotypical girl names, and thought that would be cliche (black betty, black widow, (other hookerish sounding names))... and thought, well this car is peppy and has Java Black Pearl, so why not Espresso? Bam, there you have it the reason why my car is named after a caffeine drink.
